Industrial and Embedded Systems
OT and ICS Security
Production lines are now connected to the corporate network and to vendors' remote maintenance links. Our OT specialists identify the paths from those connections to the control systems. Most measurements are made by monitoring traffic, without touching field devices.
OT and ICS Security
Many industrial protocols execute commands without verifying the sender. Therefore, protection relies on the network path to the device. IEC 62443 organizes this protection into zones and conduits.
The need
When organizations need it
- When a production line is to be connected to the corporate network to transfer data to an ERP or MES system.
- When a machine vendor requests permanent remote access for maintenance.
- When it is unclear which devices are on the control network of a plant you have taken over.
- When the periodic industrial control system test required by your regulator is due.
Questions
What this work answers
- Can the control network be accessed from a compromised computer on the corporate network?
- Who approves vendor connections and which devices do they access?
- Which devices are on the control network and how do they communicate?
- In an incident, can we safely stop production and restart it in a controlled way?
OT and ICS Security
What we do
-
OT Asset and Communication Discovery
We create an asset inventory and communication map from mirrored (SPAN) traffic. No queries are sent to devices.
-
ICS/SCADA Architecture Assessment
We analyze data flows and trust relationships between SCADA servers and field devices. The architecture is assessed using the IEC 62443 zones and conduits approach.
-
IT/OT Segmentation Validation
We determine which traffic actually passes between the corporate network, DMZ and production network. Firewall rules are verified with controlled tests.
-
Industrial Remote Access Security
We review vendor maintenance connections for approval, duration and session logging.
-
PLC, HMI and Engineering Workstation Review
We review who can modify controller programs and whether changes are logged. We also check password and configuration settings.
-
OT Incident Response Exercise
Operations, maintenance and IT teams rehearse together. Safely stopping and restarting production is included in the scenario.
Scope
Scope begins at the boundary between the corporate and production networks. Remote access paths, the SCADA layer, and selected lines are included. Active testing on field devices is performed only if separately agreed.
How we work
We start with your operations team. First, we identify which systems would pose a safety risk or production loss if stopped. Discovery is done by monitoring traffic. If active validation is needed, it is performed in a lab, on a spare device, or during a maintenance window. Operations closely monitor this step.
Deliverables
What you receive
A map of the paths from the corporate network and remote access points to the control layer. Asset inventory and communication matrix. An improvement plan sequenced around your maintenance windows. Steps that do not require production downtime are marked separately.
NoteField devices are not actively scanned by default. Older controllers may respond unpredictably to unexpected queries.
