Detection, Response and Intelligence
Detection Engineering and Security Operations
When a breach is detected determines the extent of damage and whether the legal notification deadline can be met. We reproduce attacker behavior in a controlled way. We measure whether each step is logged and whether it triggers an alert. We fill gaps in log sources and rules.
Detection Engineering and Security Operations
An attack step usually goes unnoticed for one of two reasons: either the log is not collected, or there is no rule using it. Data protection laws such as the GDPR require a breach to be reported within 72 hours. Organizations that detect late or cannot determine the scope from logs will struggle to meet this requirement.
The need
When organizations need it
- When you want to know what your SOC would detect during a real attack.
- When moving to a new SIEM or EDR product, or when key log sources change.
- When a Red Team exercise or real incident reveals steps your defense missed.
- When alerts exceed what the team can review and real threats are lost in the noise.
Questions
What this work answers
- At what stage would our SOC detect a real attack?
- Which attacker behavior lacks a log or rule?
- Does our EDR provide the expected visibility?
- Can we determine the scope of a breach from our logs within the notification deadline?
Detection Engineering and Security Operations
What we do
-
SOC Maturity Assessment
We measure the process from alert generation to closure using a realistic attack scenario.
-
SIEM Architecture and Use Cases
We determine which logs to collect based on threat scenarios. We set correlation rules and alert priorities accordingly.
-
Detection and Correlation Rule Development
We create rules based on real attacker behavior. We test each rule with the same behavior and tune them to reduce false alerts.
-
EDR/XDR Effectiveness Assessment
We use controlled tests to measure which behaviors your endpoint protection detects, blocks, or misses.
-
Threat Hunting
We search your existing logs, based on a hypothesis, for suspicious behaviors that did not trigger an alert.
-
Log Source and Visibility Gap Analysis
We identify which logs are missing from which systems and show which attacker behaviors go undetected as a result.
-
SOAR and Response Automation
We automate frequently repeated investigation and response steps. Each workflow has predefined approval limits.
-
Managed Detection and Response (MDR)
We provide monitoring and response support within the scope and hours defined in the contract.
-
Breach and Attack Simulation (BAS)
We test your security controls with simulated attacks at regular intervals and after significant changes.
Scope
SIEM, EDR/XDR, network and cloud log sources, and SOC processes. Tests use only behaviors that do not harm production and are run only on systems you approve.
How we work
We create a test list from the behaviors of groups targeting your sector. We run each behavior in a controlled manner. Then we separately mark: was a log created, did a rule trigger, did the alert reach an analyst?
Deliverables
What you receive
A coverage matrix showing for each attacker behavior whether the log, rule, and alert exist. Detection rules tested with the same behavior. A prioritized list of missing log sources.
NoteAuditors often ask how audit logs are monitored and correlated. This work also measures the effectiveness of that monitoring.
