Vulnerability Research
Impact Validation
We show in a controlled environment what a vulnerability actually causes in your systems. You set priorities based on demonstrated impact, not assumptions.
What it is
A CVSS base score measures general characteristics of a vulnerability and does not know your environment. Real impact depends on product version, configuration, and how the vulnerability is accessed. Impact validation shows in a controlled environment whether the vulnerability can be exploited under your conditions. The result may be service disruption, data access, or remote code execution.
Scope
- Matching the vulnerability to versions and configurations in your environment
- Checking if it can be reached from the internet or internal network
- Controlled exploitation demonstration in a test environment or within approved limits
- Rescoring the impact with CVSS environmental metrics
- Including exploitation signals such as the CISA KEV catalog and EPSS in the assessment
- Checking whether your existing detection rules detect the attempt
The need
When organizations need it
- When scan reports show many critical findings and you need to decide which to address first.
- When there is a request to postpone a patch that requires downtime and the risk must be assessed with evidence.
- When a vendor claims that a vulnerability you reported cannot be exploited in your environment.
Method
How we work
-
Matching
We match the vulnerability to the versions, configurations, and access paths in your environment.
-
Environment
We prefer to demonstrate on a copy of production. If production is needed, we submit the boundaries for your prior approval.
-
Demonstration
We record, with evidence, whether the vulnerability can be exploited and the resulting impact.
-
Prioritization
Based on the demonstrated impact, we propose the priority, interim measure, and remediation timeline.
Outcome
What you have at the end
For each vulnerability, you have evidence of what actually happens in your environment. Patch and downtime decisions are based on this evidence.
Frequently asked questions
Is the CVSS score alone sufficient?
The CVSS base score does not consider your environment. The real impact in your configuration can raise or lower the priority.
What if the vulnerability cannot be exploited?
That is also a result. The condition preventing exploitation is documented. If that condition changes, the risk is reassessed.
Could the demonstration harm our systems?
Steps that could alter data or stop a service are taken only in a test environment or with your approval. Stop conditions are defined before work begins.
