Secure Code Review and Application Security
Security Architecture Review
We assess trust between your services, tenant isolation and the flow of sensitive data at the architecture level. We show how far damage could spread if a single component is compromised.
What it is
An architecture review focuses on the overall system, not individual vulnerabilities. It examines how services authenticate each other and where authorization is enforced. In systems where all services trust each other unconditionally, a single vulnerability can affect the entire system. The review identifies design changes to limit this spread.
Scope
- Service-to-service authentication (mTLS or signed tokens)
- Whether authorization is enforced centrally or in each service
- Tenant isolation at the database, cache and queue level in multi-tenant designs
- Flow of personal and financial data between services, logs and backups
- Where secrets and encryption keys are stored and who has access
The need
When organizations need it
- When splitting a monolith into microservices or migrating to the cloud.
- When enterprise customers join your SaaS product and request evidence of tenant isolation.
- When you need to assess a target company's product architecture before an acquisition.
Method
How we work
-
Documents and interviews
We review architecture diagrams and interview your architects and developers.
-
Trust map
We map which component accesses which, with what identity and permissions.
-
Scenarios
For each critical component, we show the data and systems accessible if it is compromised.
-
Target architecture
We recommend changes to limit the impact, in implementation order.
Outcome
What you have at the end
You receive a map of trust relationships in your system and the impact of each critical component being compromised. Architecture changes to limit that impact are prioritized.
Frequently asked questions
How does an architecture review differ from a code review?
A code review finds errors inside the application. An architecture review assesses how damage would spread between components if an error is exploited.
We have no up-to-date architecture documents. Can we still start?
Yes. We create the documentation together from interviews with your teams and from configurations. This document becomes one of the outputs.
Can the output be used for ISO/IEC 27001?
ISO/IEC 27001:2022 Annex A defines secure system architecture and engineering principles as a control. The review output can be used as evidence that this control is in place.
