Breach and Attack Simulation (BAS)

We test your security controls by regularly running defanged attack techniques. If a change weakens protection, you see it early.

What it is

Breach and Attack Simulation (BAS) automatically runs known attack techniques in a defanged form. Simulations measure how controls such as the email gateway, web proxy, EDR, and network segmentation respond. Tests repeat on a schedule and after each significant change. Any rule change or update that breaks protection is detected quickly.

Scope

  • Harmless simulation scenarios mapped to MITRE ATT&CK
  • Testing email, web, endpoint, and network segmentation controls
  • Blocked, detected, or passed result for every simulation
  • Comparing results with alerts generated in the SIEM
  • Scheduled retests and retests after changes

The need

When organizations need it

  • When policies or versions of your security products change frequently.
  • When management wants more frequent evidence than a yearly test that controls still work.
  • When a new attack technique targeting your sector is announced and you want to quickly see how your controls respond.

Method

How we work

  1. Scenario selection

We select simulations that match your threat profile and map each to ATT&CK techniques.

  2. Setup

We deploy simulation agents on approved systems that represent your environment.

  3. Execution

We run simulations on a schedule and after changes, recording each control's response.

  4. Review and fix

For simulations that pass through, we recommend control settings or rules and repeat the test after the fix.

Outcome

What you have at the end

You have an up-to-date view of which techniques your controls stop and which they miss. Any change that weakens protection is detected before the next scheduled test.

Frequently asked questions

Does BAS replace penetration testing?

No. BAS repeatedly runs known techniques. Finding new vulnerabilities and chaining weaknesses requires human expertise.

Can the simulations harm production?

Simulations contain no real malware and do not alter data. They run only on systems you approve.

How is it different from a Purple Team exercise?

A Purple Team exercise is a workshop where attack and defense teams work together. BAS performs similar measurement automatically and regularly.
