Security Strategy and Roadmap
We turn findings, obligations and business goals into a prioritized roadmap. Each step has an owner, dependencies and a date.
What it is
A security strategy defines which risks the organization will reduce and in what order. The roadmap breaks this into actionable steps. Each step is linked to a risk, attack path or obligation. This clarifies what each budget item addresses.
Scope
- Defining business goals and critical processes
- Consolidating test findings, audit items and obligations into one list
- Ranking initiatives by risk reduction, cost and dependencies
- Multi-year roadmap and quarter-by-quarter plan for the first year
- Board presentation and budget rationale
The need
When organizations need it
- When you need to present priorities and rationale for next year's security budget to the board.
- When a merger, cloud migration or new digital product changes your security priorities.
- When management requests a plan to prevent recurrence after a serious incident.
Method
How we work
-
Inputs
We collect business goals, test findings, audit items and obligations.
-
Prioritization
We assess each initiative by risk reduction, cost and dependencies.
-
Roadmap
We break initiatives into steps with owners and timelines, and align with management.
-
Tracking
We validate completed steps with retesting and update the roadmap regularly.
Outcome
What you have at the end
You have a management-approved roadmap, with each step linked to a risk or obligation. Budget decisions are justified by these links.
Frequently asked questions
What should the board's role be?
The roadmap should be approved and regularly overseen by management. NIS2 also requires the management body of in-scope EU organizations to approve cybersecurity risk management measures.
What if we have no recent test findings?
The work can begin with a maturity assessment or targeted tests. We first assess the current state to ensure the roadmap is evidence-based.
